Description

If birds were not dinosaurs, but dragons...

Wild, fierce and with a wing span that would shame many other prime gliders, it's little surprise that these intimidating dragons live solitary lives. Only grouping together over the flesh-cleaved bones of a corpse, or during the breeding season.

However despite its large but light build, this dragon exhibits little aggressive, instead it scours the skies for signs for gatherings of lesser dragons where they cluster around a kill. It reserves it aggressive behaviour for stealing the bones of kills and safeguarding its lair which is always located near a site of crimson sand and clay.

This site of crimson clay is a zealously guarded secret by the dragon. Many locals believed it was where the dragon would spirit away it's victims and prey and hoard away collections of bones. Others believed that the clay sites were sacred to the the beast and became the resting places for the dragon's dead kin.

There is little evidence to support either of these claims, however this species of dragon, given the common name 'Bearded Vulture Dragon', has been observed frequently bathing in sands and clays. The feather colours of these beasts is highly variable among individuals, it was concluded that they dye their feathers red by bathing in their precious crimsom clay. This would signal some form of message to other Gypaetus dragons. Dragons that are more mature have richer manes, whilst young or weaker individuals have paler and less vibrant colours. Females seem to prefer males with vibrant manes.

With crimson eyes and in contrast a bright blue pupil this dragons is thought to paralyse lesser beings, and with its primitive and fierce appearance many believe this beast a harbinger of death. However this dragon rarely hunts...80% of its diet consists of bones and bone marrow.

I finally did a bearded vulture based dragon! X3

How do the feathers look? Any ideas for what might make this beautiful beast fiercer? Do you think the title is too long?

This has amazing line work.

In this drawing I think the warm colors of the body first draws the viewers eye to the body then the circular directions of the wings leads to the head.

The outward sweep of feathers along the back of the head and back adds interest and diversity to the body without taking the viewer away from the main subject.

Feathers are beautifully done with great detail.  The general anatomy of the body  along with the amount of feathers gives  the impression this dragon is a very  powerful flyer  capable of long distance flight .

The light  blue background is a very nice contrast to the dragon. Adding the orange -red in the background give harmony and unity between the dragon and the background.

The name is unique for the drawing and not to long.

The only thing I can think that might make him  fiercer, would be to lower the brow line just a tiny bit more over the eye. and to have the mouth open just a bit .  I hope I explained that right.   I personally feel this is an exceptional dragon drawing that visually  depicts the narrative.  Beautiful job on this :)
